It felt like a filler book to get to something more in book 5 but even then I don’t really k ow what it was leading up to. I can’t decide if it was lost on me or just wasn’t there. I don’t know what the plot of this book was or where it went but I couldn’t find it. I would liked to have seen more of the powerful and controlled Juliette that was in Ignite Me especially and possible more of Warner warming to Kenji (which we did see some of admittedly)Īnother thing this book lacked was plot. Juliette seemed less sure of herself and her powers at certain points in the books and Warner returned to the closed up version of himself we see more in Unravel Me and Shatter Me. I don’t really know what happened but it didn’t really work for me this time. Whereas character development was a big thing in the first few books, it seemed to fizzle out by this one. As did her confidence in herself when she was meeting with some of the other kids. Obviously the alcohol had an effect on her but I think it showed her determination. One of these specifically was her when she was drunk and gave herself a hair cut. I think she was a good addition to the book and showed resistance to the Reestablishment’s opposition to Religion.Īnother thing I liked was some of the specific scenes with Juliette which made her out to be powerful as she was in Unravel Me and Ignite Me. She seemed to show independence and power in a book where such a thing lacks. In terms of good characters, I also liked the previously mention Nazeera. As a whole, the character development wasn’t great (more on that later) but I think this improved Kenji. I liked his reactions to Nazeera, who he clearly has a crush on, and the way it gave his character more depth. While there wasn’t much to like in this book, Kenji still stood out to me. He still has his wit and great friendship with Juliette and I love him for it. Kenji is like a beacon of light in this book.

While Warner has his reservations about their intentions, new information on Juliette’s past has given him bigger things to think about. That being said, the other Supreme Commander’s kids start showing up interested in her whereabouts and plans.

People don’t seem to mind her presence that much and no one has tried to mess with her yet. Juliette is now Supreme Commander of North America, everything seems to be going as smoothly as expected given her position. PLEASE NOTE- This review will contain some spoilers (not too major) The Review… The Plot… This is my thoughts (not all bad) on Restore Me. I was going to read Defy Me and Imagine Me as well but I couldn’t finish them and I didn’t think it would be fair to review it if I DNF’d it. Shatter Me was great on its own and could have stayed that way.

Overall, I am in love with this series and I cannot wait to for the final book to come out later this year.Where begin with Restore Me… I don’t entirely know what happened in this book, it seemed slightly all over the place and I think Mafi would have been better keeping it as a trilogy. Yet, I think older teens would have the maturity to see this red flag and address the issue correctly. When bullying causes almost death, I see a serious red flag. The bullying almost crosses a line when this group of faeries try to drown Jude in a river and later on, they almost kill her by forcing her to eat a fruit that can be fatal to humans like herself. The main character, Jude, is bullied by a group of faeries at school, which includes Prince Cardan (who is another main character in this series). The one thing that bothered me just a bit was the bullying. Violence is typical in fantasy novels a few stabbings are the main violence in this book. The violence is a lot, but I wouldn't describe it as "graphic" or "frightening", especially for older teens. This book has some great romance, no sex, just some passionate kisses. Even the main protagonist, Jude, is not necessarily "good". The faeries in this book are manipulative, greedy, deceiving, and some are straight up murderers.

This book is full of faeries, but these are not your typical sing-song happy-go-lucky faeries with pixie wings and a little magic. It was very clean, which is actually quite hard to find in a Young Adult fantasy book these days. I am a huge fan of darker fantasy and so this book blessed my life with its gothic vibes. This series is one of my most favorite book series of all time.
